Canvas-ify Your Wedding Photos (A home deco idea!)

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011

I recently used the service of My Canvas Prints and I have to say that I am impressed with their excellent customer service :) . Their staffs took the extra miles to make sure that my orders are done on time. On top of that, their experienced team took the effort to re-adjust the dimension of one of the pictures to ensure the outcome (the canvas) was artistically done (for canvases, they have this thing call “gallery wrap”, if your photos dimensions are not compatible with the selected canvas dimensions, the print at the canvas edges would look odd).

I know most brides would make a large photo print of their wedding day or pre-wedding shots. Conventionally, we make a large print of the photo, and then we put the photo in a picture frame and hang them on the wall.

Now, you have another option – to canvas-ify it.

Here, I have some pictures on the wall that are conventionally framed, and among them, I also have some canvas prints. The photos below were taken at an angle so that you can see the sides of the canvases. Those sides are called “gallery wrap”. The other day I had a party at my house and interestingly, the guests took notice of the canvas prints more than the conventionally framed photos. And some of my guests mentioned that they like the “look” and “feel” of the canvas prints. I would agree on that: canvas prints do look like art work, and they make good decoration pieces. Of course, please choose a nice picture to make a canvas :) .

I do know some wedding photographers who provide canvas print in their wedding photo packages or pre-wedding photo package. Victor Hew Photography is one of them.

Or, if your wedding photographer does not provide canvas print to you, you can do that yourself easily. Just send your photographs to My Canvas Prints and their staff would advise you accordingly.

Vintage Whimsical Wedding

Friday, February 11th, 2011

Love this wedding – enough said. My bubbly client Ange (the bride) and I worked together to create this wedding. Items that I have designed drew inspiration from the 50’s (please see the end of this post). We want lots of colors and quirky details in this wedding. Ange wanted lilac as a base color, but she likes her wedding colorful as well, hence I started designing her wedding with those requirements in mind. I used subtle polka dots, a blend of bold colors as accent and trims with retro feel.

Et Voila!

Main table setting – lilac runners with vintage trim, candles with whimsical touch, and vases decorated with quilt fabric and the custom-made table mats:

Polka dots fabric remnants were used to decorate the vases:

Red flowers:

I made these table mat for them – Ange likes lilac, to add the whimsical vintage feel, I choose fabric with tiny polka dots (large polka dots might look too cutesy), and added trims on it. For the groom, Jon, I decided not to use lilac polka dots fabric, because I don’t think guys would like to stare at a polka dot mat while eating , hence I got inspiration from men-shirt, and choose a fabric that has light purple and grey stripe to make Jon’s table mat.

The bride and groom really loved the table mats I made – the groom, Jon was amused when he saw the mat: “Oh wow there’s a pocket with a button! It has a tie too!”

Candles – I purchased and custom-made different candles for this wedding:

I like this one. I made these – I am glad I found this red flower button to put it on the candles:

For ceremony:

I wasn’t keen on the sash-on-the-back-of-the-chair look. So I suggested to Ange to use silver polka dot ribbon and a red flower. 50’s Whimsical look – Voila!

Ceremony Chairs

Special seats for the bride and groom during the ceremony. Ange didn’t like the idea of having a wedding arch. Instead, I decorated their seating area with Ange’s dad’s well-traveled vintage suitcase and some balloons:

Candy “bar” – to keep the kids busy and happy. We want kids to be happy and “occupied” during the ceremony and cocktail session:

Lastly, my inspiration for this wedding comes from my all time favourite – Audrey Hepburn. My husband bought me a lot of books about Audrey, they always come in handy when I need to do research. To me, 1950s is a “sunny” and happy era. Girls were sunny; clothes were colorful. It’s a blend of basic solid colors and cutesy girly patterns like polka dots, checks and and feminine floral prints. The trick is to get the right balance and highlight the couple’s character – it’s a wedding, you want an interesting color and pattern combo and still keep the wedding feel to it; too many colors would make a wedding looking like a 5 year old birthday party!
